Step into the LiGHT

The UK has the second largest design industry in the world and is the largest in Europe. London has seen design-led businesses more than double since 2010. Lighting is a vital aspect of the design industry and the design process.

Of the 217 lighting design practices in the UK, over half (116) are in the Greater London area (source ILDS 2021). This is by far the biggest concentration of lighting designers in one city in the world. And that’s not to mention the thousands of interior designers and architects that are based in the UK’s capital and beyond. Most of these designers not only specify in the UK but have a significant portfolio overseas. This makes London the capital of international specification.

To cater for this sector, LiGHT 22 is a curated, boutique lighting exhibition for specifiers and designers brought to you [d]arc media, publishers of arc and darc magazines, and the team behind the incredibly popular [d]arc awards and [d]arc sessions, with an in-depth knowledge of the lighting specification sector.

Held at the stunning Business Design Centre in Islington, London, LiGHT 22 will revive the lighting design and specification exhibition that has been lacking for too long.

Business Design Centre

A glorious art deco building with a single span roof, the Business Design Centre was built in the 1880s but fell into disrepair after World War II. In the 1980s, Sam Morris from the Business Design Centre Group identified the potential of the Islington site and rescued it from demolition. He set about restoring the building to its former greatness. In October 1986, the new Business Design Centre opened for business. Today, the BDC is regarded as one of the premier event venues in London.

Islington has a rich and unique built environment. Historic buildings and spaces and well-designed new development contribute to the local character and distinctiveness of the borough and make it an attractive, more sustainable place to work and visit. Islington and its surrounding area are the workplace and home of many designers and is situated within walking distance of Clerkenwell and Shoreditch, making it ideally located for designers and specifiers to attend.

[d]arc media

[d]arc media has an intimate knowledge of the lighting specification market, publishing magazines and online content as well as organising dedicated events targeted at lighting designers, architects and interior designers.

arc and darc magazines are the leading international publications for architectural and decorative lighting specification.

[d]arc awards is the only peer-to-peer awards programme for the lighting design profession since its inaugural event in 2015.

[d]arc sessions is a brand new networking event bringing suppliers and specifiers together in the relaxed surroundings of international resorts.

LiGHT 22 builds on the success of the much-loved ARC Show, which ran from 2004 to 2009 at the Business Design Centre before [d]arc room was established in 2017 until 2021.  LiGHT 22 is a new offering for lighting design built on our knowledge and experience of the lighting specification market.
